Doctoral Scholarships for Graduates from China
The Faculty of Theology of the University of Zurich and the Reformed Church of Zurich are offering 1-2 three year doctoral scholarships to begin September 1, 2011, in the field of
Theology, Christian Studies or Religious Studies
Applicants are required to have a master's degree in theology, Christian studies or religious studies, good mastery of English, and the readiness to learn German. The first year of the scholarship may be used in order to meet the entry requirements for the University of Zurich’s doctoral program.
Applications must include:
- cover letter
- C.V.
- Diplomas including transcript of records
- 2 academic recommendation letters
- Research proposal for a doctoral thesis
- church recommendation letter (for candidates in theology)
Candidates successfully passing the first step of application process will be invited for an interview, either by phone or by a representative in Shenzhen.
Successful applicants will be awarded a USD 15,000 p.a. scholarship; housing in a guest family will be provided. Progress will be evaluated annually, and the scholarship can be terminated by the end of each study year. Recipients must commit to serve in a church or academic institution in the field of Theology, Christian Studies or Religious Studies in China once they have completed their dissertation.

In addition to this opening, students and doctoral students of partner institutions of the University of Zurich (Beijing University, Fudan University Shanghai, Chinese University of Hong Kong) are encouraged to take advantage of the offer to study as an exchange student at the University of Zurich. For information please address the international relations office of one of the partner institutions.
Doctoral students from CASS can alternatively apply for a short term scholarship within the framework of the cooperation between CASS and the Sino-Swiss Science and Technology program (see the “Student Exchange” instrument of the SSSTC - www.global.ethz.ch/stc/china/instruments/se).
