In the Name of the Father, and of the Son +, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.<\/em><\/p>\n Why?\u00a0 Why did this have to happen?<\/p>\n Why his being betrayed, with a kiss?<\/p>\n Why his being abandoned and denied by his closest friends?<\/p>\n Why his being judged and condemned?<\/p>\n Why his being beaten and insulted and mocked?<\/p>\n Why his being nailed to a Cross, why those long hours of dark suffering?\u00a0 Why his groaning death, why his crying out \u201cMy God, My God, why have you forsaken me,\u201d why his quick burial in that cold tomb?<\/p>\n Why?\u00a0 This was all because of us\u2026this was all because of you!<\/em><\/p>\n But why would he do all this?<\/p>\n Why give one last meal for his friends and followers?<\/p>\n Why would he serve us his own body and blood in bread and wine, and why assure us: your sins are forgiven?<\/p>\n Why pray, \u201cNot my will, but thy will be done\u201d?<\/p>\n Why promise us a place in his Father\u2019s Kingdom?<\/p>\n Why remind us that he would go ahead of us when he is raised?<\/p>\n Why did he endure all things that day?<\/p>\n Why did he offer himself up like that?<\/p>\n Why his final cry of pain and victory, why did the soldier cry out \u201cThis man was God\u2019s Son,\u201d why did the earth shake below, and the temple curtain tear above?<\/p>\n Why?\u00a0 Why did he do this?\u00a0 This was all for you.\u00a0 He did this all out of love for you.<\/em><\/p>\n So come and see this Holy week.\u00a0 Follow him all the way to the Cross, all the way to the Tomb.\u00a0 As we remember his Greatest Commandment of Love, and the total gift of himself in the bread and wine, here on Maundy Thursday.\u00a0 As we watch and pray in the darkness on Good Friday. \u00a0And as we celebrate together the feast of feasts, here on Easter morning.<\/p>\n Why?<\/p>\n Come and see.\u00a0 This was all for you.<\/em><\/p>\n And the Peace of God which passes all understanding guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, Amen.<\/p>\n —<\/p>\n The Rev.
