  • PhD Student

Benjamin Manig studied Protestant theology and German linguistics and literature in Zurich from 2013-2020. After his studies, he completed his vicariate to become a Reformed minister in Horw LU.

His dissertation project deals with the reception of the Letter to the Romans with a focus on the Zurich Reformation and its surroundings. As a New Testament dissertation, it takes a look at questions of contemporary exegesis of the Epistle to the Romans and presents the manifold interpretations of the Reformers as a response to the one-sided description of the classical perspective by biblical scholars of the "New Perspective on Paul".

In the Epistle to the Romans, the classical passages on justification are not primarily examined, but the paraenetic chapters 12-15. With regard to what the new life in Christ is supposed to look like, various interpretations are examined.
