Dear readers!
The Göttingen Sermons on the Internet provide current sermons for a world that has become global. All "current sermons" are intended for the next Sunday or holiday. They have been prepared only a few days before and can thus make references to very timely events and discussions. In addition, there are sermons for "special occasions". The sermons are based on biblical texts according to the revised pericope order adopted in 2018 by the VELKD, UEK and EKD or the reading order of the "Revised Common Lectionary". The authors belong primarily to churches of Lutheran or Reformed tradition. The contributors are mostly ordained pastors, professors.
The Göttingen Sermons on the Internet are elaborated sermons for individual preaching practice. The individual contributions are the result of comprehensive preaching work, beginning with the scientific work on the text and its theological reflection, and ending with the homiletical implementation of what has been worked out in the current situation, sometimes supplemented by suggestions for prayers and songs for the respective case.
The sermons published here are not ready-made structures that merely need to be copied and pasted. However, they offer much more than just individual text modules. Rather, the sermons are intended to serve as a whole to orient preachers in the preparation of their own sermons about essential facts of the respective pericope and to inspire further theological reflection and individual development. Parishioners can refer to them in preparation for the service or its follow-up. In their combination of theory and practice, the sermons support theological education and at the same time serve research.
The Göttingen Sermons on the Internet regularly publishes sermons in several languages. Currently these are German, Danish, English, Spanish and Portuguese. Occasionally other languages are added. All preachers are native speakers. Sermons from other countries can be particularly stimulating. Different circumstances and traditions open up new perspectives and teach us to understand sermon texts in a new way.
Visitors come from all over the world, from North and South, East and West. Thus, through these digital offerings, increased ecumenical awareness and thinking as well as theological communication beyond existing borders become possible.
The Göttingen sermons on the Internet as globally topical sermons are open to all interested parties - just like the sermon in a local congregation. Visitors, both long-time and new, are welcome.
