Jutta Leonhardt-Balzer studierte Theologie in Tübingen, Cambridge und Heidelberg. 1993 erhielt sie das Diploima in Theology, Cambridge University. 1995 schloss sie ihr Studium mit dem 1. Kirchlichen Examen der Evangelischen Landeskirche in Baden ab.
1995 begann sie mit ihrer Promotion zum Thema "Jewish Worship in Philo of Alexandria" bei William Horbury an der University of Cambridge, die sie 2000 abschloss.
Von 2000 bis 2002 war sie im Lehrvikariat in Wertheim, 2002 absolvierte sie das 2. Kirchliche Examen der Evangelischen Landeskirche in Baden.
Von 2002 bis 2007 arbeitete sie in verschiedenen Funktionen an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Assistentin Prof. Wedderburn, Forschungsstelle der DFG).
2007-2019 Lecturer (2007), dann Senior Lecturer (2013) in New Testament an der University of Aberdeen
Seit 2019 Honorary Senior Lecturer in New Testament an der University of Aberdeen
Seit Dezember ist sie 2020 Pfarrerin im Kooperationsraum Wiesbaden West.
Sie arbeitet an dem Projekt: "Das Böse in dualistischer Weltwahrnehmung. Ein Vergleich von Qumran und den Johanneischen Schriften".
