In 1978 Imre Peres graduated from the Comenius Lutheran Theological Faculty in Prague. He earned three doctoral degrees: in New Testament in 1996, in Philosophy in 2000 and in Ancient Literature in 2008. In 2002 he finished his Habilitation in New Testament Studies and in Ancient History of Education. His areas of interest include the Theology of the New Testament, Hellenistic Religion and ancient Greek epitaph texts. Between 1998 and 2002 he worked as a scientific researcher at the Theological Faculty, Bern University, where he was in charge of the international project entitled “Greek Epitaphs and the Belief in the Life after Death in the Ancient World”. He has published ten monographs and about 200 essays and articles in journals in Hungary, Slovakia and elsewhere. Of particular importance are his book Griechische Grabinschriften und neutestamentliche Eschatologie (2003) and his articles “Positive griechische Eschatologie” (2007) and “Sepulkralische Anthropologie” (2010). Presently, he is working on a volume of essays and studies entitled Similarities and Interrelationships in Eschatology and chiefly on the project "Life and Death in the Ancient Greek Epitaphs" at the Theological Faculty of the University of Zürich, with Prof. Dr. Jörg Frey. His work comprises a large number of editorial and publishing activities. He is member of several Hungarian and other scientific societies such as SNTS (Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas). He worked as a lecturer at the János Selye University in Komarom, at the Lutheran Theological Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava, at the Theological Department of the Pedagogical Faculty of the Mathias Bel University in Banská Bystrica. Since 2007 he is professor and head of the Department of New Testament and of Patmos Research Institute of the Reformed Theological University of Debrecen.
